Steve Whitehead, Business Development
Steve was born and raised in Arizona. He graduated from Brophy College Prep in Phoenix and earned a degree in Political Science from Arizona State University. He was a commercial real estate broker in Phoenix with Lee & Associates for 20 years. Steve joined the Clayton team to help develop and grow the commercial division. He brings 20 years of relationships with construction contractors, owners, developers, property managers and architects. Steve has been a member of the Executive Council of the Boys and Girls Club and is a member of the Phoenix Thunderbirds. He is married and has three children, he is an avid Fly Fisherman and enjoys all sports.
Patty Ruiz, Residential Project Manager
Patty's 20 year career in flooring spans all aspects of the industry: showroom coordinator, accounting, order desk, inventory, purchasing, credit and project management. She found a permanent home base at Clayton in February of 2022, and enjoys the family friendly atmosphere. Native born and raised, Patty is a South Mountain Community College Cougar and an all around superwoman. In her free time, she loves watching movies with the family.
Cale Clayton, Owner / Founder
Cale was born in Iowa and moved with his family to Tucson, AZ. He moved to Tempe where he received his Bachelors degree at Arizona State University. Cale has over 30 years experience in the flooring industry. Cale has been an active member of the Thunderbird Organization, a Phoenix based civic organization that has raised over $100 million for local charities.

Nicole Hawks, Senior Project Manager
Originally from Milwaukee, Nicole has called Phoenix home since 1988. With more than 25 years of experience in the commercial flooring industry, Nicole brings extensive knowledge and hands-on expertise to her role as Lead Project Manager at Clayton Floor Covering. Throughout her career, she has been deeply involved in scheduling, project management, and operations—ensuring every project runs smoothly from start to finish.
Rod Humbarger, Estimator
Rod was born in Michigan but has been a valley resident since 1972. He is a 2nd generation Ceramic Tile Installer / Contractor who grew up in the trade, with over 40 years in the flooring industry he has a deep understanding of both commercial & residential projects. Rod found a home with the Clayton Team in February of 2024, Bringing decades of hands-on experience, industry standards & installation practices along with him. In his free time Rod likes camping, fishing, archery and is always ready for a good game of Cornhole
Mark Allred, Senior Estimator
Chicago Native, Mark has lived in the valley for over 7 years. He has worked with both small and large flooring companies for over 12 years in residential and commercial settings. In his free time, Mark enjoys spending time w/ his family, volleyball, golfing and anything that involves the outdoors.

Isaac De La Torre, Superintendent assistant
Clayton Floor Covering & Design is proud to have Isaac De La Torre as part of our team. Born and raised in Arizona, Isaac grew up learning about flooring from his father, who worked as an installer and often brought him along on jobs. Now at 20 years old, he brings a strong background in teamwork and discipline from his experience playing football and baseball. Isaac is eager to expand his knowledge in flooring and is committed to contributing to the success of our company. Always ready to assist superintendents and learn new skills, he is a valuable asset to our team.

Nicole Reddin, Business Development
Nicole moved from Chicago to get her Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Northern Arizona University. Her background includes many years in Hospitality Design working for Troon Golf in their Development Department, and Fox Restaurant Concepts in both Development and Facilities. She currently serves on the executive board with Arizona Assistance in Healthcare as Vice President. Nicole loves to spend time with her family, travel, and trying new restaurants.
Natalie Pylman, Project Manager
Natalie was born and raised in Arizona and is a proud graduate of the University of Arizona. She began her career in the dairy industry, where she managed day-to-day operations and owned her own cattle, building a strong work ethic and hands-on leadership style. About eight years ago, Natalie transitioned into the tile industry at Craftsman Court Ceramics, immersing herself in the field and spending the last five and a half years as a Project Manager. Known for her exceptional attention to detail, she has successfully overseen a wide range of projects and built a strong reputation for reliability, quality, and clear client communication.
Natalie has now joined Clayton Floor Covering to continue advancing her project management career and further expand her expertise in the industry. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her dogs.
Anthony Patti, Superintendent
Clayton Floor Covering & Design is proud to have Anthony Patti as part of our team. With 37 years of experience in the commercial flooring industry, Anthony brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to his role as Superintendent. He spent 25 years mastering flooring installations as a member of Chicago’s Carpenter Union Local 1185, before moving to Arizona, where he has spent the past 12 years overseeing projects as a field superintendent. His deep industry expertise, commitment to quality, and hands-on approach make him a key contributor to the continued success of our team.

Leala Smith, Accounting
Leala Smith is the Senior Accountant at Clayton Floor Covering & Design and a true jack-of-all-trades. Since joining the team in 2011, she has supported nearly every part of the company, from project coordination to HR to operations, always with a focus on teamwork and problem-solving. An Arizona native who loves puzzles, great food, and live music with her boys, Leala believes Clayton succeeds because everyone works together, and she’s proud to work with a team that truly feels like home.

Alex De La Torre, Senior Superintendent
Alex was born in Los Angeles CA and moved to AZ in 1988. He began installing residential and commercial flooring in 1990. After working for a family member installing flooring, he decided to become self employed as a subcontractor in the flooring industry. He did this for 15 years. After receiving an opportunity to become a superintendent for one of the valleys top flooring companies where he worked for 5 years, Alex is now using all of his flooring knowledge to ensure quality in commercial and residential installations.

Mitch Hull, Sales and Showroom Assistant
Mitch graduated from Scottsdale Community College with a degree in Interior Design. He grew up in the industry and has built a portfolio for home staging, remodeling and design. Working with AutoCAD, his elevations and floorplan are valuable to clients needing design assistance on their upcoming projects.

I’m an Arizona native with 14 years in the flooring industry and 8 years working in granite countertops fabrication and installation. Off the clock, I coach my daughter's rec basketball team, instilling teamwork, and that winning attitude.

Doug Wingerning, Outside Sales
Doug is a native Arizonan and graduated from ASU in 1985. He has been in the flooring business for over 25 years and has been with Clayton since its inception in 2006. Doug loves to travel with his fiancé and spending time with his teenage daughter.
